Austin Brooks: On Track For Greatness

Austin brooks started track in 2022 when his friend Josh Doan mentioned him trying it for fun. Once Austin started track, he competed in the 100, 200, long jump, and triple jump events. As a Athlete Brooks has a few short-term goals Brooks says, My short-term goals are to break our schools Long Jump, Triple Jump, 100, and 200 records and win the state championship in Long jump, and my long-term goal is to make it to the Olympics.

 Austin runs for Steinbrenner and outside of school run AAU track with VAST track club. Austins family has a background in sports as well. His mother played volleyball and softball in college, and his dad played soccer in college. His sisters attended Steinbrenner, playing volleyball and track. Brooks states “My inspiration is Kobe Bryant, all though we don’t play the same sport his mentality has inspired me to be the athlete I am today” many peoples inspiration and or motivation comes from somewhere.

Being a senior Austin has a huge future ahead of him. He says,Colleges at all levels have offered me a spot to compete for them all though I am undecided as to where I will end up committing to” For an athlete there can be many challenges on your path to success. Austin stated, “I would say injuries by far are the biggest challenge, last year I partially tore my hamstring twice so I wasn’t able to perform at the state championship, and right now I have a pulled hamstring that will stop me from competing at the indoor state championships and nationals.”
