Snacks are a staple here at Steinbrenner. From the concession stands at sports games to the lunch lines, food is undoubtedly fuel for students. Beyond these queues, tucked into a corner of the cafeteria, lie practical, snack-tacular vendors: vending machines. Though not as populated as the concession stands, vending machines are still a go-to place for a quick snack or drink.
With plenty of options, usually somewhere around two or three dollars, there’s bound to be something for somebody.
“I usually get Sun Chips…sometimes I get Cheezits if I’m getting sick of Sun Chips, and if I want something sweet, I get Rice Krispy Treats,” said freshman Olivia Stone. Stone is quite satisfied with the choices, but does believe they could add more flavors.
Sophomore Bostyn Simington has a similar attitude, claiming that they could use healthier food. “I feel like the stuff we have now is a bit more sugary, and it would probably be better if we had less sodium,” she said when asked what she’d like to see on the menu.
But apart from the could-haves, interviewees still expressed pleasure with the machines. Everyone needs a snack sometimes.
Snacks aren’t the end of the story, though. The vending machines themselves can have difficulties sometimes. “Sometimes you have to press the button four times, but I haven’t actually gotten it stuck,” said sophomore Ashlyn Marshall.
While Marshall may be lucky here, she said that her order has gotten stuck at other places.
All in all, while they may be lacking in some things, the vending machines are a welcome addition to Steinbrenner’s menu. They provide for students, and the wait is usually not too long.
