During the late 2010s, Swedish singer Zara Larsson was a chart-topping artist for songs like “Symphony” and “Lush Life”. Her music was widely renowned, but her fame later died down, and she was forgotten for around a decade. Now, she has undergone one of the most fascinating rebrands in modern pop music and has reinvented herself as a vibrant summer icon.

Viewers online picked up her music again and started posting audios from her newest album Midnight Sun. Her rebranding was not just from her new music, but included reinventing her visuals, marketing, performances, content, and identity.

When it came to 2020, styles from 2010 changed and Zara Larson’s popularity slowed down. According to her, this part of life was a “flop era” when her name started to disappear for years.

Unexpectedly, this recent turning point in her career started from a TikTok meme in 2024 that went viral online to her song “Symphony”. The video included vibrant colors in the background and dolphins with a humorous text in the middle. Instead of just ignoring the trend on Tik Tok, Larsson decided to embrace this meme and go along with it.

“When I saw the trend on Tik Tok, I felt so much nostalgia seeing the song and especially the colors. It reminded me of my childhood,” said junior Jenna Bauman.

This trend quickly grew her popularity again, and she turned this creative moment into inspiration for her and a marketing move.

Zara Larsson’s visual transformation included the fusion of a bright, playful, summery, ocean-like aesthetic with a Y2k style. She became known as a “summer princess” which separated her from other artists and created her own brand personalized to her.

“I think the vibrant costumes look so good on her and are a step up from her old outfits,” said junior Halle Druschel.

Her new album Midnight Sun fully embodies this rebrand, and her style has become a new trend online, becoming a guideline for makeup tutorials, outfits and dances. Larsson has not only revived her career on stage, but also on social media.

Currently, Zara Larsson is hitting stages and selling out concerts quickly has her fame keeps growing.

“I think it is amazing to see how passionate she is on stage with her music, and I think it sends so much positivity to people,” said senior Ariana De-Jorge Pintus.

Audiences love watching her dance and perform, as the “summer princess” amazes and reminds people of her outstanding vocals and stage presence. This rebrand not only changed her career, but also her future, bringing a sense of nostalgia and energy into pop music again.
