The 2024 Golden Globes are officially over, and people are buzzing over what has happened. This year was the 81st Golden Globe awards and was held in Los Angeles in the Beverly Hilton on January 7th. The ceremony was filled with glamour and unique styles from each person there in which they showed to all. The Golden Globes honors film and television achievements from the nominees to the hosts. Big events took place that night in which drama sparked.

Each category had two hosts to present the award to the winner. The hosts ranged from actors to comedians, all starring in films and shows. This year’s main host was a standup comedian and actor, Jo Koy. During some parts of the show, he made jokes that the audience found unfunny and quite uncomfortable. The jokes that got the most attention were the jokes about the Barbie movie and Taylor Swift. For instance, when making jokes about Swift, he stated, “The big difference between the Golden Globes and the NFL, on the Golden Globes, we have fewer camera shots of Taylor Swift.” As expected, most people didn’t laugh, in fact, there were laugh tracks played as background noise. Based on her facial expressions and when she took a sip of champagne, you can tell Taylor was annoyed by the comment. However, the comedian stated, “I wrote some of these, and they’re the ones you’re laughing at.” Having said this, most of his jokes were created by the writers of the Golden Globes.

There are many categories the audience is taken through throughout the night; there are 27. The Cinematic and Box Office Achievement category top nominees were Oppenheimer, Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, and Mission: Impossible- Dead Reckoning Part One. The award went to the beloved movie, Barbie. Another category was Best Motion Picture- Animated, won by The Boy and the Heron. There were many nominees for Best Original Song- Motion Picture such as “I’m Just Ken” and “Peaches”. However, the winner overall was “What Was I Made For?” from Billie Eilish and Finneas.

Overall, the 81st Golden Globes was a success with 9.4 million viewers. Celebrities enjoyed themselves and some were even able to walk home with an award that night.
