Record Breaking Girls Swim Team Heads to Regionals: First Time for Many Members on the Team!
Steinbrenner’s girls swim team makes it to regionals, with this being the first time for some people on the team and they are super excited. The district competition took place at The Long Center in Clearwater, Florida.
As they dive into this year of swimming, they do many workouts to train for big events like this, before regionals and to now prepare for state. Maya Farooq, a senior at Steinbrenner High School provides insight on how practices work for the team.,
“I practice 7 to 8 times a week I have morning and afternoon practice and we do a lot of swimming, racing, and drills, “says Farooq.
Many of the girls on the team swim outside of the school team.
“I went to the non-club practices, and I swim on a club team but due to injuries I was just training with the non-club practice, which was really good for me, “says Lila Ordex, a junior at Steinbrenner High School.
The strong spirit of the warrior’s swim team is one of the key components to their success in districts and regionals. They are strong together and good at lifting each other up.
“Our strengths are we are really good at having high spirits, I feel like our team is always there for everyone, and our weaknesses are we are bad at losing,” says Farooq.
The girls are really excited for this year’s activities coming up with regionals and states. They are very confident in themselves and their teammates, “I think we have a really strong team this year and I know we have about 20 kids that are going to regionals and that like record for us, so I think we will do good,” says Farooq.
