On Friday, August 30th, Steinbrenner’s Club Rush was held in the gym during both lunch periods. Club Rush is an event at the beginning of every school year where students can explore the clubs Steinbrenner offers. Joining clubs during high school is a great way to strengthen college applications and get involved in the school, not to mention they help bring people together, support mental health, and improve academic skills.
Clubs held at Steinbrenner are either an interest club during fourth period, honors club during third, service club during second, or a co-curricular club during first.
At the beginning of the school year, students have a chance to form a new club, however it requires 40 signatures from students at Steinbrenner to be considered. This year, a new club called “Our Giveback” was formed by junior Brielle Nguyen. This club’s goal is to give back to the community through volunteering, charity events and many other activities.
“The activities we want to do are based on what the student interest is…give the chance for them to use their leadership skills,” said Nguyen. The club aims to get students engaged in their community through fun activities.
While there are many newer clubs that have come to Steinbrenner, some clubs have stayed around for multiple years. Key Club is a returning club that provides opportunities for students to gain volunteer hours and give them the chance for officer positions.
“…I like the leadership, andI wanted to make a difference…” said sophomore Shruti Karthikeyan.
Many students like Karthikeyan join clubs for leadership opportunities while some join with the idea of their future careers. With this, some clubs specifically stood out to students.
“I wanted to join HOSA because I want to go into the medical field,” said sophomore Bhargavi Gwandi. HOSA is a well-known club that revolves around solving real world medical problems.
Unlike last year, club days have moved to Friday rather than Wednesday. Now that Club Rush has concluded, the first official club day is on Friday, September 13th.
