On Tuesday April 24th, 2023, Steinbrenner’s women lacrosse team played the first game in the regional semifinals against Manatee High School, the hurricanes. A lot of preparation went into the game, and the team had to display a hard work ethic in order to feel ready to compete.

I think we worked so hard this season and I’ve never seen a team more determined than this one,” said senior captain Kate Prentice. “We’ve grinded every day and everyone has worked so hard.”

The game started strong with the warriors scoring 2 points right off the bat, by senior players and team captains Taylor Lapointe and Kaitlin Price. The hurricanes came back and scored two points, tying the game for the next ten minutes. However, with assists made by Lapointe and Prentice the warriors gained back their lead.

The game continued with Steinbrenner gaining 14 more points making the score 17-5, with great plays made by senior captains Zoey and Katie Lind, and sophomore Audrey Wehle. The warriors advanced onto regional finals against Plant High School on Friday April 28th

With Plant being their biggest competitor there was a lot of pressure going into the game.

“I learned that teams don’t just have wins or loses we have bad days and good ones, we make mistakes, and we succeed, but I’ve learned that we always do it together and we win or lose together,” said Lapointe. “I think that’s such an important thing to understand.”

The team played with their best effort, but Plant ended up winning with a super close score of 6-5. Even though the team lost, they learned so much from playing and are so grateful for the opportunity that lacrosse has given them. This was also the seniors’ last high school game, so emotions were high by the end of the night.

“Relationships are key to having a successful team,” said Prentice. “Working together is what brings people on top, I hope I have just as much of a connection with my college team than I did with this one”
