To kick off the new school year, Steinbrenner had its very first pep rally on August 29th to welcome incoming students into the school and to show them what it is to be a warrior!
The day started very busy for students with the PM testing for freshman and sophomores and CPR training for Juniors, continuing with club rush during A and B lunch. By the end of the event-filled day, it was time for the pep rally.
Students were led to the gymnasium where they were greeted by the cheerleaders cheering in front of each of the student sections, as well as the band and color guard performing on the bleachers. This built enthusiasm for our warriors and encouraged a sense of school spirit.
The first pep rally of the year began with DECA’s “Pie a teacher” contest. Mr. Pearson, who collected the most donations, took the honor in stride, meeting the moment with humor and good spirits. His cheerful reaction brought plenty of laughter from the crowd and set a fun, lighthearted tone for the rest of the rally.
Shortly after, Entourage took to the stage with their western theme performance, giving a glimpse into the theme of the football game later that night. They swept the crowd with their dance moves and their amazing singing voices, giving the audience a peek into the school’s arts and what they have to offer. The experience was not only enjoyable for the audience, but also for the Entourage performing.
The events of the pep rally continued with different sports teams like swim, football, and golf competing in silly and amusing challenges. Challenges such as the potato sack race and the floatie toss. The rules for the potato sack race were to race all the way from one side of the mat and back, giving us an amusing view of classmates falling and flinging themselves in hopes of winning against the other team. Football players performed cartwheels and basic cheer stunts in the center of the gym, giving the crowd plenty to laugh about. Afterward, several varsity football players were introduced to the audience.
After the football players’ scene, it was finally time for the introduction of the cheer team. They kicked off their opening with varsity cheerleaders tumbling on the mats. Followed by a routine that includes cheering and stunting with both JV and Varsity cheer, filling the gymnasium with spirit and fun.
JV cheer captain Sierra Green said, “Learning the routine was a very enjoyable and rewarding experience. It took a lot of hard work and dedication to do, but the result was worth it. Working and bonding with the other cheerleaders and all working hard on these routines is what makes this sport truly special.”
After their routine, the football players came out once more with the senior varsity cheerleaders to do a dance routine to the popular song “Rock Your Body,” by the Black-eyed Peas. The routine was filled with an amusing dance sequence that the football players and cheerleaders both performed, which really showed the football team’s dance skills. The routine ended with different cheer jumps and a delightful mood in the air, perfect for the official end of the pep rally.
Students in their class sections all sang the Alma Mater; it was a great end to an action-packed day that many students wouldn’t change for a thing. Ashtin Horl, a junior from Steinbrenner, said, “It was a fun experience that I enjoyed; it was a good end to the school day.”
This pep rally showed what Steinbrenner was about and how they cared for many individual organizations of the school, but most importantly, the school as a whole. Not only this, but they gave many freshmen the beginning of a wonderful high school experience. Making this pep rally exceed expectations made it an enjoyable memory to look back on.
The Senate organized the entire pep rally, from what games each sport was going to be incorporated into the schedule to what was going on at what time. Lexi Medina, a junior who is a part of the senate, said, “Seeing everything coming together after taking the time to plan this pep rally feels so good because it takes a while to plan these things.” Thanks to the Senate, we are able to look back at this pep rally and think of it as a joyous moment in our high school years.
