Students from Steinbrenner High School recently showcased their passion for healthcare and leadership at the annual HOSA-Future Health Professionals competition in Orlando. Representing a wide range of medical interest from nursing and emergency care to public health and biomedical science, the students competed against peers from across the region in a series of rigorous events designed to test their knowledge, skills, and professions.
The event not only highlighted their dedication to the field of health science but also celebrated their hard work and commitment to making a difference in the future of healthcare providers.
Throughout the competition, students gained more than just academic knowledge. They also developed strong leadership skills, learned how to work effectively as a team, and practiced collaboration in high-pressure settings. “Friends really make a difference,” said junior Yen Nugyen. Many people at Steinbrenner did in fact make a difference by just supporting the HOSA competitors while going to compete.
While attending the competition, students faced long nights for them to be successful but despite it being challenging, it provided a unique experience for them. “There were some serious moments when we would have conferences from 8-11pm some nights but it was all a fun experience overall,” said junior Joshua Win. These moments helped strengthen their communication and problem-solving abilities which are essential in the medical field when dealing with stress.
Among the competitors, sophomore Abi Muva stood out by earning an award for exceptional performance in their event, bringing pride to the entire school. He won an award for barber James’s service which is for 100 volunteer hours. “I get to help many people with volunteering it’s a good way to help people,” said Muva. This accomplishment is special because it allows Muva to bring home a memorable prize to show their dedication.
While only one student brought home a medal, all participants left the competition with valuable skills, lasting memories, and a deeper passion for healthcare. Their involvement reflects the strength of our health science program and the drive of students who are preparing to make a real impact on the future of healthcare and in turn making a change in people’s lives.
