Spring break is one of the most anticipated times of the year. The weather is warming, the sun is out, and school is about to be over in the span of a couple months. For many students, spring break is the last time they will get to relax and unwind before exam season, which is why it is so looked forward to throughout all schools. Students at Steinbrenner share this love for break and, in turn, have shared how their breaks went and what they believe is the best spot to vacation over the week off.
Florida is one of the best states in the United States to spend spring break in because of the availability of things to do for everyone. There are beaches, concerts, sports events, conventions, and more for people all over to enjoy. However, some people are drawn to other states or countries because it has something different to offer them whether it be visiting family, seeing tourist attractions, or simply just exploring a new place, Steinbrenner students have plenty of stories from the variety of places they went over the break.
By many students, spring break is taken as a time to pack bags, fly out, and visit their loved ones. Brayden Rippey, a sophomore at Steinbrenner High School, went up to Newport News, Virginia to visit his brother. Newport News is Virginia’s largest naval port, being the center of a lot of navy soldiers and officers. Rippey stated that while in Virginia, they were going to see his brother who was stationed there.
Rippey also wanted to go visit the mountains while he was there, but due to a cold front he could not make it. Virginia is one of the many states that the Appalachian Mountain range stretches across, making it the perfect state not only to vacation at the beach, but also the rural mountain ranges. The beach was one of his ideal places to go, “I went over to Virginia; it was nice even though it was a 12-hour drive both ways” he said.
Many families and students also travel for sights and experiences, such as Isabel Libreros, a sophomore at Steinbrenner, “I went to Texas over spring break and saw a rodeo show.” Like her, traveling for events brings great joy to many families, especially to states such as Texas.
Texas brings in about two million people annually to see rodeo shows as it is one of their most popular tourist attractions.
Although Liberos enjoyed the Texan heat, she expressed how she wished she still could have made it to the beach back in Florida as it is one of the most popular places for people of all ages to spend their time over breaks during any time of year. Floridian beaches tend to be majorly popular, being some of the most beautiful beaches in the country, and some beaches even in the world.
As for states with amazing specialties and entertainment, Washington, D.C. also holds so much American history and is a plentiful city for tourists who want a full itinerary. Emma Ackle, grade 10, traveled here over spring break. “I really wanted to go on a cruise over the break,” said Ackel. While she enjoyed her trip, she also wished to have been at the beach or on a cruise over the week off to be able to hang out with her friends more.
“The best place to over to during break has to be the beach.” Said Olivia Lopez, junior at Steinbrenner. Lopez was one of the many students who happened to spend most of their break at the beautiful Floridian beaches. She spent the week on the gorgeous sandy shores and got sunburnt, unfortunately.
For another beachgoer, Jazmine Cologne, sophomore, went to Merritt Island and Cocoa Beach. While Cologne enjoyed the shores of east Florida, she wanted to go out of the state, mainly to Hawaii. “I would say the best place to go would be somewhere with a beach vibe or in an Airbnb.” Said Cologne. No matter where the beach is, most people tend to follow the trend of vacationing on the coast.
Another example of students traveling for fun experiences would be Lewis Dailey, a sophomore at Steinbrenner. Dailey traveled all the way from Tampa to Miami to see Tyler the Creator’s Chromakopia tour. He stated that it was the best concert, and it was one of the best things to do on a break like that.
The Chromakopia tour got lots of traffic throughout all of Florida over spring break as there are so many fans of Tyler the Creator who would “die to see it again.” Many of the students at Steinbrenner High School have shared similar stories about their experiences on this tour.
There are thousands more students at Steinbrenner who have all had unique experiences over break, however, it would be easy to generalize and assume that a majority of them and/or their families spent their break or a fraction on a beach. Florida is known for its many hundreds of beautiful beaches with some world-renowned ones such as Clearwater Beach and Siesta Key on the Gulf Coast.
With such easy access to the coast, most people have a beach within driving distance of their own homes, however, it’s not uncommon for Floridian families to travel within the state and stay at the beach for several days to a week. Hotels, Airbnb’s, VRBOs, and more are plentiful in Florida due to the amounts of people who swarm in for spring break all over the country and even the entire world.
No matter where families vacationed, or even if they did, it is without a question that spring break is heavily looked forward to everywhere in the nation and is heavily enjoyed by kids, teens, and even adults. Spring break is the perfect time to relax and unwind after the first few months of the new year, and is something that everyone enjoys equally every single year.
