The girls flag-football team at Steinbrenner can be overlooked but the team has without a doubt made sure they have stood out this season. They have played in the Bucs Preseason Tournament and the Bucs In-Season Tournament playing some of the best teams in the state.
Steinbrenner is currently 30th in the National Rankings and continuing to climb higher with each and every game. “We have had a great season so far but it isn’t over yet and I can’t wait to continue” says Sydney Lord senior on the team.
The talent this year is off the charts with too many star players to even count. Though some that have been noticed are Berkeley Demetter, KK Ramsey, Megan Medina, and Kathryn Williams.
KK Ramsey isn’t just one of the best in the state but in the country. She recently made the US 17U Girls National Flag Team among with only 17 other girls proving what an amazing player she is. She uses her quick release, and precise accuracy to make good passes and uses immaculate field vision to cause the defense to second guess themselves.
Along her side is Megan Medina. Whether it is running, catching, or throwing Megan has proved herself worthy of the ball as one of the top players as a freshman. Even though she may be tiny she is fierce and plays with confidence and calmness to make the best out of every play. “I try my best to keep my cool and not take any play too hard so that I stay the best I can be at all times.”
Berkely Demetter is a huge threat to every team with her speed and sharp routes. Every route thrown at her is immediately sharpened making her almost unguardable to the defense. She leads the team in receiving yards with 816 and cannot be overlooked when it comes to clutch plays.
Last is Kathryn Williams who recently broke the school all time rushing record with over 53 sacks as only a junior. She averages around four sacks a game becoming every quarterbacks nightmare as she slides and uses her incredible speed to get to the quarterback as fast as she can.
