t Steinbrenner High School, the girls’ track team isn’t just about running, jumping, and throwing—it’s about determination, teamwork, and the pursuit of excellence. From the explosive speed of the sprinters to the endurance of the distance runners and the power of the throwers, every athlete plays an important role in making this team one of the most competitive in the region.
Every afternoon, the track team brings energy to the track with the sound of pounding feet, coaches. whistles, and teammates cheering each other on through each and every event run. The sprinters fine-tune their explosive starts, perfecting their strides as they push for better and faster times. The distance runners continue to run miles upon miles, building endurance and mental toughness that will carry them through the toughest and longest races. Meanwhile, the throwers and jumpers focus on the preciseness and power, through clearing each bar and throwing the farthest distances.
“We train hard because we know every second, every inch counts in each and every race,” says Coach Martinez. “But what really makes this team special is the way these girls support each other. Whether it’s a tough workout or a championship race, they push each other to be their best.” The girls show their devotion to each other each and every day and begin to create a community together throughout each training. Sophomore Julia Adams even states “These girls have become some of my best friends even when competing with each other.”
The season is filled with exciting meets, from local invitationals to district and regional championships. The energy at these events is electric with each running getting ready to explode forward from the blocks, relay teams exchanging batons with perfect precision, and jumpers soaring through the air in pursuit of a new personal best.
But it’s not just about winning. It’s about the journey, the early morning practices, the shared struggles, and the victories both big and small. The joy of setting a personal record, the pride of representing Steinbrenner, and the friendships built along the way are what make the experience unforgettable for many.
Beyond competition, the team fosters a culture of encouragement and unity. From pasta dinners before big meets to post-race celebrations, the bonds formed on the track extend far beyond it. Every athlete, whether a first-year runner or a senior leader, finds support and inspiration in their teammates. “Our team is a family,” says senior captain Mia Reynolds. “We push each other, we celebrate together, and no matter what, we always have each other’s backs.”
The Steinbrenner Girls’ Track Team is always looking for dedicated athletes ready to push their limits and be part of something special. Whether you’re an experienced runner or just starting, there’s a place for you on the team.
