The Steinbrenner boys’ lacrosse season started off with high hopes and eager anticipation. The Warriors were ready to showcase their skills and determination on the field. “As it is my first year on the lacrosse team, I have learned so many new things with the help of my teammates and coaches. A lot of my football buddies also play so it’s nice to play with them again” says Evan Martin.
Their first game was against Steinbrenner’s rivals, the Sickles Gryphons on February 10th. Despite their best efforts the Warriors fell short and lost the game with the score being 12-18. It was a tough start, but the team remained strong and focused on their next game.
In their following game, the Warriors faced off against the Bloomingdale Bulls. The team was determined to bounce back from their previous loss, and they did just that. With new plays in place, the Warriors managed to pull through with an exciting win. The final score was 11-8, and the victory showed off their hard work. Spirits were high, and the team was ready to carry this momentum forward. “This win was special as we scored a lot and worked really hard as a team to get this win” Blane Oliver replied.
On February 18th the Warriors were up against the Robinson Knights. Leading up to the end of the game the score was tied, being 8-8. Having to go into overtime the Knights scored first leaving the Warriors with a loss, 8-9.
The next game on the schedule was against the Freedom Patriots. The Warriors were confident and played with great teamwork. It was a close match, but they outscored the Patriots with a score of 6-5. The win gave the team more energy moving forward into the season.
However, the season had its ups and downs, and the Warriors faced a tough opponent in Calvary. Despite their best efforts, they couldn’t overcome the challenge and lost the game 5-17. It was a tough game, but the Warriors learned lessons and will come back stronger. “Wins and loses, we just like to come together as a team and work on how we can make the next game better and learn from mistakes. This team is very encouraging and always has my back” Reese Sellers said. The Warriors have a tough stretch of games before the break, but they look forward to the hard fought games.
