As the end of the year approaches, the seniors are starting to focus on their last celebrations as high schoolers. To kick off their celebrations, prom was held on March 1st at the Innisbrook Golf Resort from 7pm-11pm.
This resort is the same as this year’s homecoming location which sparked some doubts amongst the seniors. For seniors that attended prom as juniors, comparisons were also made between the two years.
“I went to last year’s…this one was definitely better. The decorations were more elaborate…,” said senior Lily Swanton.
Before arriving at the venue, many students chose to start celebrating early by going out with their friends and getting food or taking pictures. Spending this time beforehand doing traditional activities like these was a way for the seniors to start getting excited about the special night ahead.
Prom only comes once for many so it’s most popular for seniors to document the moment through photos. Students went all around Tampa to find their perfect backdrop that would commemorate their outfits and who they shared these moments with. “My friends and I took pictures at a scenic golf club…,” said Swanton.
During prom, most people are on the dance floor, busting a move and dancing the night away to the music. Like homecoming, prom had a DJ who brought out different types of songs and got the crowd excited. The music selection was a range of TikTok songs, Spanish music, and recommendations from the attendees.
“Most of the songs that played seemed to be popular from TikTok,” said senior Aubree Gunn. Playing songs popular from social media got the crowd of students involved in dancing and singing, bringing the energy up in the room.
While prom is a long and exhausting event, some still preferred to go out after, choosing to go to after parties or get food. “Me and my girlfriend went to Burger King and then to a friend’s house afterwards…,” said senior Henry Dorrell. Even though the event itself was over, seniors kept their energy up for hours after.
Attending an event like prom has a social impact for all students’ last moments of high school. It’s a night for friends to spend quality time together before graduating and going their separate ways.
“I’m glad I went…I got to spend time with my friends,” said senior Amelia McGovern. While the seniors still have more events such as Grad Bash and Senior Sunset, they are starting to finalize their high school years and take in every moment they have.
