In an outstanding performance, the Philadelphia Eagles clinched their second Super Bowl title by defeating the Kansas City Chiefs 40-22 in Super Bowl LIX (59). The game was held on February 9 at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Senior Joshua Quartapella said, “I was happy the Eagles won because I used to live in Philadelphia and my dad went to Villanova.” The Eagles dominated from the start, establishing a 24-0 lead by halftime. The chiefs only had one 1st down in the entire half. Senior, Ayla Hassett said, I was hoping the Chiefs would come back and win because I am a fan of Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce.
The Eagles defense was outstanding sacking quarterback Patrick Mahomes six times in the game and only allowing the chiefs 23 total yards in the first 2 quarters. They also had 2 interceptions on Mahomes.
One from the rookie Cooper DeJean being his first one in his career and scored on his birthday. This was NFL history being only the 2nd person to do this. This was what really clinched the Super Bowl for the Eagles. In the second half the eagles scored 16 more points with the chiefs only scoring 22 in total.
Once the game was over green and white confetti filled the stadium and the celebration began. The Eagles prevented the Chiefs from winning the Super Bowl three times in a row, which would be record breaking.
Junior Ava Gannon said, “I wanted the Eagles win because if the chiefs won I would have thought the game is rigged. I am also not a big fan of Taylor Swift.”
Quarterback Jalen Hurts earned Super Bowl MVP honors, completing 17 of 22 passes for 221 yards and contributing three touchdowns.
In conclusion, it was a very unexpected Super Bowl and fans will definitely remember the Philadelphia Eagles being Super Bowl 59 champions. Now in the off-season, NFL teams are working hard to hopefully make their year as champions this upcoming season.
