The Steinbrenner boys’ basketball team has experienced devastating losses in the first few games of the season. This leaves the Warriors with a record of 0-6
On December 10th, the Warriors took on the Robinson Knights at home. With this being a home court advantage, the stands were packed with people cheering till the end of the regulation. The Warriors played hard and with just a few seconds left, the Warriors had the lead and pulled through with a win. Cohen Schultz explained, “One strategy that worked to secure the win last night was making free throws. We outshot the other team from the line…”
Senior Douglas Jordan showed an impressive performance scoring a total of 14 points. With the help of Riley Allus scoring 11 points, Tyler Goggan scoring 9 points, Jackson Nealy and Aiden Thomas scoring 4 points, as well as Titan Norris, Jay Pandya, and Kaiden Simmons scoring 5 points, they all worked together to get the win. “It feels good to finally get the win. Just need to stay focused and keep up the momentum throughout the season,” said Jordan. With this first win in the book, it leaves the Warriors to be 1-6.
With the momentum of winning their first game, the Warriors were prepared and ready to take on King.
The following day, on the 11th, the Warriors demonstrated yet another great performance. Each player played hard, but Douglas Jordan was lead scorer once again with a total of 30 points with 24 of those points coming from three-point shots. The Warriors knocked out King and got another win, with the score being 66-41.
Junior, Antonio Bernard explained the sudden improvement seen by the varsity team. “Our team had been improving our chemistry and trust in each other, allowing for better passes and more open looks.”
The back-to-back wins have given the warriors hope and motivation to make a comeback and have a great rest of the season. The upcoming games are against the Sickles Griffons and the Warriors will attend the Sportsmanship Classic held at Carrollwood.
