Finding the perfect gift for a high schooler is no small challenge. Trends change rapidly, preferences shift from student to student, and what is considered “cool” one month can quickly be labeled “cringe” the next. With the influence of social media, viral trends, and ever-evolving fashion, choosing a gift that truly resonates can be hard.
Around Steinbrenner High School, students have different views on what they want for Christmas. To get to the bottom of this gift giving debate we interviewed multiple Stein students. Their responses revealed a mix of popular favorites, unique personal wishes, and clear opinions on what to avoid.

What High Schoolers Actually Want
Many students prefer practical gifts they can use daily, such as tech, fashion items, or sports gear. “I want tennis rackets and a record player,” said freshman, Mason Constantine, who plays tennis.
These gifts are often seen as both meaningful and functional. Paying attention to intricate details is crucial. Noticing which shoes they have their eye on in the store or how they their face lights up while visiting the makeup section can provide amazing clues for gift they might enjoy. The secret to choosing a great gift is to stay observant, especially with the holidays closely approaching.
What They Don’t Want
High schoolers often find impersonal or overly trendy gifts underwhelming, especially if the items don’t match their style or interests. Generic clothing, like plain sweaters or random accessories, can come across as thoughtless.
Teen’s value presents that reflect their hobbies or personalities, emphasizing the fact the one giving the gift know them in and out. A common misconception is that gifts must be expensive to be appreciated. “It doesn’t have to be expensive,” said freshman, Vera Suri, emphasizing that the thought behind it matters more than the cost.
The Key to a Great Gift
Personalized gifts that show an understanding of a teen’s interests and aspirations are significant. “I don’t think I would like a gift card because it doesn’t have much meaning to it,” said freshman, Allessa Kern. While teenagers can be thoughtful, well-chosen presents can demonstrate care, which makes all the difference!
