On September 11, 2024, the 40th anniversary of the VMA’s took place live on national television. In attendance, artists like Taylor Swift, Chappell Roan, Sabrina Carpenter, and Post Malone were able to celebrate the night with awards in their hands. With categories like Song of the Year, Best New Artist, and Best Collaboration, almost all artists were nominated or awarded with Moon Man figures.
Now considered the most-awarded solo artist in VMA history, Taylor Swift had a remarkably successful night, winning seven awards. Starting off the night, Swift and Post Malone won Video of the Year for their song, “Fortnight.” Celebrating together they shared a hug while Swift shared a few words on stage saying, “There is a very clear reason why Post Malone is everyone in music’s favorite person to collaborate with…” Leaving Malone somewhat speechless, he follows up with, “Taylor is…um…absolute loss for words, absolutely one of the most kind and talented people I have had the honor of knowing.”
Chappell Roan made her music debut back in 2017 but has just recently blown up all over social media, with her most popular songs being “HOT TO GO” and “Casual.” This year was her first time attending the VMAs as she was nominated and took home the award for Best New Artist. In her speech she wanted to thank her fans stating, “Thank you to the people who are fans, who listen to me, who hear me when I share my joy and my fears.” She also made an appearance on stage performing her song, “Good Luck, Babe” which included a fiery battle scene choreography. In the audience, everyone rewarded her by singing and dancing along causing the atmosphere to be exactly like a concert.
The 2024 VMA’s is Sabrina Carpenter’s first year winning her very own Moon Man. This year she was able to perform a few songs off her new album, “Short n’ Sweet” that came out back in August. Without even being on stage, Carpenter starts off her performance on a swing from the ceiling mashing up her songs, “Please Please Please,” “Taste” and ending with “Espresso.” During her songs, her choreography incorporated dances with astronauts and aliens which has caused the audience to have a weird reaction as she ended “Taste” with a kiss from one of the aliens.
Her song, “Espresso,” won Song of the Year, as it was a popular hit all throughout the summer. After winning, she gave a speech by thanking her fans as she said, “I feel so grateful to have truly the best fans in the world, I know that sounds cheesy, but I love you. And thank you to that me espresso!”
Towards the end of the night, everyone was able to take pictures together before celebrating at the after party. The music filled night concluded with laughter and smiles from each of the artists. The 2024 VMA’s was a great accomplishment for this year’s hit pop stars!
