On Thursday, August 22nd, The Steinbrenner swim team made a splash into their first event of the 2024- 2025 season at the Temple Terrace recreational center. The team started the season off strong by taking home first overall as a group against rivals King and Wharton. The swimmer’s hard work and support from friends and family behind them nothing can stand in their way! Sophomore Marley Genusa said, “Stein was the most energetic team there. Everyone was great and supportive!”
Steinbrenner swim did not get together over the summer to prepare for the meet, however, most of the team members participated in club swim outside of school. This is how the swimmers stayed conditioned and kept up their athletic skills over the summer months. The season officially started about one week before the start of school and both the boys’ and girls’ teams had only one school-sanctioned practice before the meet. Preparing and setting up for the meet consisted of stretching, warming up, and setting up tents for their chairs. Another thing the team took part in was their famous chant, ‘We are the warriors and couldn’t be prouder, if you can’t hear us, we’ll get a little louder!’
After their victorious win one esteemed swimmer, Marley Genusa said, “I expected us to win, we have a great team this year.” Adding on Junior, Konrad Paradies, who placed third in the 100-meter race, said, “Yes, I did expect us to win. Even without a diver.”
As the swim season starts to unfold the Warriors are looking forward to taking home more wins in the future and continuing to dominate at the meets. Senior Captain Clareese Alfajora stated, “I’m looking forward to creating good memories with my fellow swimmers this swim season as it’s my last one…” She added, “I wasn’t sure what to expect coming into the meet, but regardless we all swam our best and it showed through our results as both boys and girls won!”
