On October 27, the Warriors had a big senior night win against Sickles. As it was our last home game of the regular season, the stands were packed in honor of our seniors. Before the game started the fifteen seniors joined the band and the cheerleaders for the senior night festivities. It was a special time to recognize them for the achievements that they had at Steinbrenner over the years.
Kicking off the special game for the Warriors with a two touchdown lead started by wide-receiver #3 Brady Messenger. The Warriors had momentum throughout the game. They wrapped up the first quarter with a touchdown by running back #2 Andrew Diaz. The Warriors started up 21-0 at the end of the first and the second quarter wasn’t a disappointment with touchdowns by wide-receiver #8 Brenan Lowe and #2 Andrew Diaz again. At the end of the half Coach Long was very pleased when stating, “It’s going very well. I know our seniors are doing a great job leading, and there are a lot of big plays tonight”.
Through the second half the Warriors kept the lead and ended up with a final score of 42-14 defeating the Sickles Griffins. Fans celebrated and were very happy for the seniors. The Warriors soaked in the win at home for the final time this season. Steinbrenner seniors have the privilege of staying on the field as long as they want after their final game, and many did. The players have this time to reflect on their time at Steinbrenner and we talked to some about it, senior #4 Jamey Bollo, said “the environment of Steinbrenner was pretty positive, we all just work together as a team”. Also, commenting that a favorite memory he had was “Every summer we go down to the villages and get a seven on seven playing and we all just sleep in the same hotel rooms and hangout at the hotel”.
Another senior and first year football kicker #46 Evan Hodac said his favorite memory on the team was, “kicking in the game against Eastlake”. Even though he had only played one year he explained that he had learned so much about team bonding and the environment playing a Steinbrenner. The night was special for the Warriors with it being a big win to keep their season alive. The Warriors traveled to Riverview and got the final win of the season. Many Steinbrenner seniors will continue playing in colleges across the country.
