Boys Lacrosse Dominates the Gryphons
On April 3, 2023, Steinbrenner’s boys’ lacrosse team went up against the Sickles Gryphons. The game had a quick start with junior Shale Saeger excelling at face-off and senior captain Avery Kamuf scoring and junior captain Andrew Diaz assisting within the first few minutes. This theme continues throughout the quarter with it ending at 6-1, with the Warriors in the lead.
“I was pretty confident going in, since we beat Sickles three times the previous years, and going into this game we had a stronger record,” said Kamuf.
The second quarter picked up with Sickles immediately scoring, but the Warriors dominated with scoring four times throughout the quarter. The Gryphons once again get a minute penalty for slashing, which allows Steinbrenner to pick up their score.
“Before the game we huddle up and our captains get us hyped up with their pregame speeches,” said junior Damien Clements.
The team support aided in the next few goals scored during the third quarter and well as Sickles scoring. Saeger manages to score twice back-to-back which causes a roar of applause and cheers from the students and parents watching the game.
The fourth quarter closes out with the Warriors sweeping out the Gryphons by scoring another three points, ending the game with a score of 16-3 with the Warriors taking the win. The team was on their A game which brought their season record up to 15-1.
“The key is to continue doing what we’re doing, and staying consistent, staying disciplined… we hope to win regional quarters and win the region to beat Plant,” said Kamuf.
The Warriors are going to continue to work their hardest throughout the rest of the season and bring home the name of regional champs!
