It’s Difficult to Hate Gracie Abrams’ Good Riddance Album
On January 9th, Gracie Abrams came out of the blue and announced her debut album ‘Good Riddance’ which then made February 24th the best day for her fans across the world. The pop artist finally released an album that contains 12 tracks, 3 of which are singles. Fans have been waiting for this from the Abrams released her debut EP, “minor”. Since the exciting release of the album, fans at Steinbrenner have expressed their thoughts.
“I really like the album, I just feel like there could’ve been more variety in songs…this album is definitely gloomier,” said freshman Lorraine Muruais.
Abrams’ songs are known to be mellow and gloomy, but she has produced a handful of songs that follow a more upbeat rhythm. ‘Good Riddance’ contains a few such as, ‘I know it won’t work’, ‘Difficult’, and ‘I should hate you’. Fans listening have different preferences when it comes to the beat, so everyone finds a song on albums that they consider their favorite for different reasons.
“I think [the album] is a great mix of upbeat and mellow songs which are my favorite types of albums,” said senior Morgan Swann.
In her past, Abrams used to post covers of songs from other famous artists such as Billie Eilish which was one factor that reeled in many viewers that eventually became fans. She continued this for years before she got signed with Interscope Records in 2019 and then produced her first single, ‘Mean It’.
‘Mean It’ is still one of her top songs today alongside songs from her EP and newest album. Now with 1.5 million followers on Instagram and over 800 thousand on TikTok, there are many reasons current fans started to love not only her music but also Abrams as a person.
“I feel like a lot of artists have a hidden meaning in their lyrics, but she just straight up says what she’s feeling,”, said Muruais.
It can be seen that many of her songs resonate with fans because there are multitudes of videos uploaded to social media where fans express their stories on how they relate to her songs. Over time, her music has started to become trending on social media which has brought her some attention.
Abrams has gained even more attention when recently it was announced that Abrams is going to open for a leg of Taylor Swift’s, ‘The Eras Tour’ which means the once small music creator will now be playing in sold out stadiums, including at Raymond James on April 13-15th.
“Gracie is just now getting out there, so I hope she gains a lot of fans and attention from this tour,” said Swann.
Abram’s career is set to become more successful over time as her number of streams continues to rise. Singles off the debut album have already made their way to Billboard’s Trending Songs ranking. Her own mini tour, the ‘Good Riddance’ tour is also set to start in March before she takes off to tour with Taylor. The upcoming schedule for growing artist, Gracie Abrams, is busy and fans can’t wait to see what comes next.
